In Memoriam: Prof. Dr. Mahmut Gazi Yaşargil (1925–2025)** We mourn the loss of **Prof. Mahmut Gazi Yaşargil**, the “Neurosurgeon of the Century,” who passed away on June 11, 2025, at age 99 . Born July 6, 1925, in Lice, Turkey, he rose from humble beginnings to revolutionize brain surgery. A pioneer of microneurosurgery, he developed groundbreaking tools—floating microscopes, ergonomic aneurysm clips—and personally performed over 7,500 intricate intracranial operations As Professor and Chair at the University of Zurich (1953–1993), he trained more than 3,000 neurosurgeons worldwide . In 1999, he was honored as “Neurosurgery’s Man of the Century (1950–1999)” After retiring in 1993, he continued teaching and operating as Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Arkansas (Little Rock), sharing his techniques and wisdom until well into his later years . His legacy of innovation, mentorship, and excellence lives on in every microsurgical procedure performed today. The day featured comprehensive medical and rehabilitative screenings, free consultations, and awareness sessions about available services to enhance patients’ quality of life. Over 60 volunteers from various specialties—including medicine, dentistry, audiology and speech therapy, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy—participated in the event. This provided students with a valuable opportunity for hands-on training, practical skill development, and a strengthened spirit of volunteerism. Neuropedia played a key role in coordinating the efforts and uniting different medical specialties to support patients and their families. This event reflects Neuropedia’s ongoing commitment to promoting health awareness, enhancing medical training opportunities, and empowering patients to live better, healthier lives.
